Hyster NZ gets record order from KiwiRail

Hyster NZ has just secured one of its biggest orders in history with an order for 14 Hyster trucks from KiwiRail, with a mix of purchased and leased units. These include forklifts, reach stackers and top loaders.

This has been boosted subsequently with another order for five 40-tonne forklifts plus a five-year asset management contract.

Ryan Yearsley, National Key Accounts Manager, said that the deal was finalised after many months of discussion and negotiation.

Our team worked closely with KiwiRail, understanding their exact requirements and then formulating the right package that would achieve their goals. We have been associated with KiwiRail for many years so have a good understanding of their operation and requirements, he said.

Both companies have a strong safety focus, which was also important. We know the importance of up time, freight turnaround and keeping freight moving so we can not only tailor the correct machines, but also monitor fleet utilisation and preventative maintenance.

We also actively manage their parts management with significant holdings in Auckland, Christchurch and Sydney which ensures market-leading turnaround time and has the backing of Hyster NZ's 24/7 support, he said.

KiwiRail, with its focus on promoting lower carbon emissions, selected the premium Tier 4 engine upgrades, on Hyster NZ advice. Hyster Tracker and partnering with Cat EM Solutions allows for turnkey asset management solutions to be integrated into the KiwiRail fleet nationally. The machines were selected to work primarily in Southdown, KiwiRail's Auckland hub, where they have 19 big trucks, as well as Palmerston North, Wellington, and Invercargill.
