Heavy duty forklifts for the timber industry
7 September 2022
Hyster heavy duty forklifts can be used in many industries and applications from metal handling, construction materials, paper handling or port applications with high-duty cycles and extreme operating conditions.
In New Zealand, the logging and timber industry is big. The timber yard is a tough environment, which needs a tough truck. Loose logs, raw and finished wood products in varying types, shapes, size and weight, uneven surfaces, dust and visibility issues are just some of factors that present particular handling challenges.
Hyster heavy duty forklift trucks are the ultimate tough trucks for these harsh operating conditions. In particular, the latest heavy duty H8-12XD model, offering lifting capacities from 8500 to 12500 kgs, also provides optimal visibility, strength and reliability, making handling of timber materials easier than ever.
A new generation forklift lands in New Zealand
A New Generation Hyster H8XD6 was recently supplied to a long standing Hyster customer, complimenting their existing fleet. The Hyster® H8XD6 High Capacity Forklift Truck is capable of 8,500 kg nominal capacity @ 600 mm load centres and is a proven machine in today’s fast moving, high cycle lumber applications.
This new forklift was specified in co-operation with our customer, using their own experiences of their operation to deliver the best results. Increased protection to the cabin, air conditioning systems, load back rests and chassis were all purposed to meet the customer’s needs.
“Despite the much highlighted global supply challenges, we were pleased to be able to deliver this new-gen XD forklift to support our customer’s increased production needs”, says Paul Giles, who is responsible for Big Truck Sales at Hyster New Zealand.
Improved cabin features
The Hyster® H8XD6 operators cabin is the latest from Hyster. Using a proven frame with FOPS protection, it is equipped with an armoured glass top window, curved front and rear windows and steel frame doors with clear view tempered glass. The Hyster operator cabin provides operators excellent all-around visibility. The curved and tempered glass is much stronger and less subject to vibration and noise than flat glass.
Unlike many cabs offered in the industry, the Hyster cabin contains scratch-resistant glass all-around. A 7 inch full-colour Integrated Performance Display provides truck performance data in one clear screen. This multi-function touchscreen gives the most relevant information to the operator in a clear manner, offers onboard diagnostic capabilities, and is easily programmable and customizable for various operator skill levels.
Quality build
Manufactured in Nijmegen, Holland Hyster Big Trucks are renowned for their quality of build and long life. New technologies are employed for additional protection systems to the driveline and hydraulic system to extend component life.
Hyster Big Trucks regularly exceed 30,000 running hours over the life of the truck. Today in New Zealand machines are in operation with 40,000 plus running hours. A proven testament to the quality of build and quality of components used by Hyster.
