Enhanced Capabilities with Orica NZ Ltd's New Hyster F3.5UT-4 Rough Terrain Forklift
Orica NZ Ltd has just added a powerful asset to its fleet—a customised Hyster F3.5UT-4 Rough Terrain forklift. This model is designed for New Zealand’s demanding outdoor operations, equipped with advanced features that prioritise operator safety, productivity, and comfort in challenging environments.
Built for New Zealand’s Toughest Conditions
The Hyster F3.5UT-4 is known for its rugged reliability and is built to handle rough, uneven surfaces. This model was customised to meet Orica NZ’s Ltd specific needs, beginning with a fully enclosed cab. The cab ensures protection from weather extremes, as well as dust and materials present in their demanding workplace while maintaining an optimal operator experience through a high-performance air conditioning (A/C) unit. For Orica NZ’s Ltd team, this means operators can work comfortably and efficiently, regardless of external conditions.
Mohammed Aslam, Lead Hand at Hyster’s NZ, said: ‘I’m stoked we got the Hyster F3.5UT-4 out to Orica NZ right on time. Honestly, this is the most complete rough terrain forklift I’ve seen in NZ, especially with the fully enclosed cab and A/C. We made sure every detail was spot on and even added a few extras they wanted like the lever lock, Denso tape on hoses, battery isolator, emergency stop switch, high-vis tape, and exhaust wrap. All done in-house at our Wiri Workshop to keep it tidy and safe. It’s already out there doing its things, and the feedback’s been great—everyone’s really happy with how it’s performing!’
Guy Hall, Hyster NZ’s Territory Sales Manager, commented: ‘The Hyster rough terrain forklift proved to be fit for purpose in Orica's demanding mining environment, and the team found it surpassed their expectations’
Safety Features
In Orica’s line of work, operational safety is non-negotiable. That’s why their new Hyster Rough Terrain F3.5UT-4 is equipped with several safety features designed to prevent accidents and ensure complete control.
- No Lost Load on Forks: This feature is vital for rough terrain applications, where the stability of loads can be compromised by uneven surfaces. With no load loss on the forks, Orica NZ Ltd can be confident that loads remain secure, significantly reducing risks.
- Emergency Stop: Located within easy reach, this safety measure enables the operator to instantly stop the forklift’s movement in case of any operational hazards. It’s an essential feature in fast-paced environments, providing immediate control over unexpected situations.
- Lever Lock: This additional safety device is designed specifically for use with a man cage when lifting personnel. The lever lock prevents the operator from accidentally bumping the tilt lever while the man cage is in use, ensuring maximum safety for both the operator and the personnel being lifted.
- Fire Extinguisher: Safety is paramount, especially in environments dealing with potentially hazardous materials. The F3.5UT-4 is equipped with a fire extinguisher, ensuring that operators are prepared to respond quickly in the unlikely event of a fire, adding another layer of protection to their operations.
- Wrapped Hydraulic Fittings: To combat corrosion in harsh environments, Denso tape is used to protect hydraulic fittings. This protective measure extends the lifespan of the components and helps maintain uptime for the client, ensuring reliable performance even in challenging conditions.
- Red and White Reflective Tape: Visibility is a key aspect of on-site safety, especially in low-light conditions. The reflective tape added to the forklift’s exterior enhances visibility, allowing operators and nearby personnel to easily identify the machine’s presence in various conditions, reducing the risk of accidental contact.
- Spark Arrestor: The addition of a spark arrestor enhances safety in environments where flammable materials may be present. This feature minimizes the risk of ignition from sparks, making the forklift a safer option for Orica NZ Ltd's operations in potentially hazardous areas.
Connected Operations with Hyster Tracker
This model also includes Hyster telematics, a cutting-edge fleet management system. Hyster Tracker provides real-time data on the forklift’s operational performance, helping Orica NZ monitor usage patterns, schedule preventative maintenance, and reduce downtime. With these insights, Orica can better manage the forklift’s life cycle, minimising unexpected breakdowns and maximising uptime.
